History
North University of China (NUC) is a multi-disciplinary institution of higher education, which is managed and built jointly by COSTIND (Commission of Science Technology and Industry for National Defense) and People’s Government of Shanxi Province. Situated in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, surrounded by Erlong Mountain and Fen River, is the campus of NUC. Blue mountain and green water make enchanting scenery.
NUC was established in 1941 with the original name as “Taihang Industry School”. The school moved to the present site in 1949, and was promoted to Taiyuan Institute of Machinery in 1958. Later on, approved by the State Council, 4 specialties moved in from Beijing Institute of Technology and another 2 from Shenyang Institute of Technology (today’s Shenyang University of Science and Technology) and, as a result, the scale and entire strength of the school was enriched and improved. In 1963, NUC was put under the direct administration of COSTIND, being one of the eight most famous colleges and universities in national defense industry. The name North China Institute of Technology was adopted in 1993. In 1999, NUC became the institution of higher education built jointly by COSTIND and People’s Government of Shanxi Province. In 2004 the school was renamed as “North University of China” under the approval of the Ministry of Education.
